The former WBA super world welterweight champion Keith Thurman returns to the ring after more than two years of inactivity, this time to face the former WBA super lightweight champion Mario Barrios. The fight will take place on January 26 at an event organized by Premier Boxing Champions.
It was agreed that the fight will take place at welterweight, so it will be the first time we see Barrios perform in this weight division, so in the first instance might be thought that it represents a great advantage for Thurman, who not only has had a good amount of fights at that weight, but also has a record of 29-1 with 22 victories by the way of knock out, however, ‘One Time’ has been inactive for 2 years and 5 months and may have significantly changed the great boxer we know and who had his last bout against Manny Pacquiao.
For his part, Barrios comes from a knockout loss to Gervonta Davis on June 26, in a fight where despite the result he showed great boxing skills and a warrior’s heart.
This fight will be very important for the future of both fighters, however, the focus will be mainly on Keith Thurman, since before his loss against Pacquiao he was for many people the best fighter that the welterweight division had, and this can be his return pass to fight for the championship against the kings: Errol Spence Jr, Terence Crawford and Yordenis Ugas. There is no doubt that this division is one of the hottest in the boxing world today and we all hope that the matches between the reigning champions will take place in the near future.
