WBO American light heavyweight champion Joe Smith Jr. will defend his championship on Saturday, January 15 in a 12-round boxing match against fellow American Steve Geffrard, in what will be the main event of the boxing day organized by Queensberry Promotions, Star Boxing and Top Rank at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, Verona, New York, USA.

Joe Smith Jr comes into this fight being the light heavyweight champion by the WBO with a record of 27 wins and 3 losses, with 21 wins by knockout. Smith Jr. comes in after connecting 3 wins in a row, the last one against Maxim Vlasov in a very entertaining fight where it rained blows from both sides and in the end the American wins by majority decision.

Meanwhile, American Steve Geffrard also comes to this fight at the last minute, as Smith Jr.’s opponent was Callum Johnson, but he tested positive for Covid-19 and had to pull out of the fight. Geffrard was supposed to fight on January 8, but he was able to negotiate with the organizers of this event and was agreed as the new champion’s opponent.

Steve Geffrard is a 31-year-old boxer with a professional record of 18-2, and this will be by far the most important fight of his career, as he has yet to face any outstanding fighter, other than the fact that his 18 victories have been consecutive.
