ABOUT thabiso mchunu

Thabiso Mchunu is the WBC’s number one cruiserweight challenger and will get his title shot in the WBC’s mandatory bout. Mchunu was born in South Africa and at 33 years of age, he has a professional career of ups and downs, although he is currently on a very good run and therefore maintains the confidence of being a world champion.

Mchunu falls by knockout to Ilunga Makabu and although he immediately bounces back with a win over Boniface Kabore, he is matched up against Oleksandr Usyk who knocks him out again. With the aforementioned ups and downs, he manages to beat Thomas Oosthuizen in 2018 and from there on connects 3 more wins in a row.

Ilunga Makabu was challenged a few weeks ago by the undisputed 168 lb champion Saul Alvarez, immediately accepting the challenge, however, the challenger Thabiso Mchunu raises his voice and opposes this confrontation, claiming that he should be the next contender for the championship, and so it was, the WBC who already announced the fight between Canelo and Makabu, had to make this fight official first.
