The dream seems real: Devin haney beats ‘JoJo’ Diaz and retains the WBC World lightweight Title

The WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney won the fight by unanimous decision: 116-112, 117-111 (x2) in the main event of the last evening in an exciting fight lived in the MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. During the course of the fight, a dominant Haney was observed the first 3 rounds, where he knew how to move in the ring and throw good straight shots to keep Diaz at distance, while the challenger tried to put pressure through his high guard respecting the speed of his opponent and waiting for the moment to throw power punches. The fourth round was taken by Diaz with a good display throwing a greater volume of punches and landing some good left hands. In the fifth and sixth rounds the fighters took a breather and handled a slow fighting pace and low punch volume, where Haney kept Diaz at distance and landed the most punches. In the seventh round ‘JoJo’ again lets go of his left hand and connects it several times on the face and body of the champion. The eighth and ninth rounds were constant pressure from Diaz and good boxing walking backwards from Haney. The last three rounds of the fight showed the fatigue in the fighters especially in the challenger, as well as a dominance of Haney through quick punches that went through Diaz’s guard.

In general terms it was an entertaining fight where the champion showed more boxing resources. ‘JoJo’ Diaz tried to put pressure from the beginning of the fight and protect himself from the rapid punches of the champion, however, the latter managed to defend Diaz’s lunges very well, showed great counter-attack resources and knew how to keep his opponent at a distance through of a sticky jab and fast straight punches.
