George Kambosos chosen as the revelation boxer of 2021
The WBC chose George Kambosos as the revelation boxer of the year 2021, this thanks to the great surprise he gave the public when he became unified champion after beating Teofimo Lopez.
George Kambosos’ boxer of the year recognition should come as no surprise, as the 28-year-old Australian boxer achieved what seemed impossible to the vast majority: defeating then-unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez. He did not need any more fights from Kambosos, nor does he deserve to be demanded, because the boxing that he displayed in that respective fight was brilliant and very complete. Watch here the highlights of his fight against Lopez.
Beyond Kambosos, several names sounded like a possible revelation boxer thanks to their performances during 2021. Oscar Valdez could have been perfectly the honored one, because at the beginning of the year he beat Miguel Angel Berchelt with a spectacular knockout, taking away the WBC super featherweight championship. However, his name was heavily involved in trouble after testing positive for banned substances and controversially winning his championship defense against Brazil’s Robson Conceicao.
Likewise, the name of Isaac Cruz sounded on the lips of several fans, because with his three fights executed in 2021 he proved to be a very complete boxer, however, it was very likely that he was not above Kambosos, taking into account that they belong to the same weight division, and that Cruz failed to wrest the championship from Gervonta Davis.
Do you think someone else was deserving of this recognition, if so, tell us who, we greatly value your opinion.
Canelo Alvarez y Eddy Reynoso también fueron ganadores de reconocimientos por la WBC.
